A tribute
Share your memories, your message, and a photo. Help us celebrate one of the most remarkable careers British skiing has ever seen.
The career
Dave Ryding has spent more than two decades competing consistently at the top of World Cup alpine skiing. He started on a dry ski slope at Pendle Ski Club in Lancashire at the age of eight and did not ski on snow until he was twelve. From a dry slope in the north of England to the Hahnenkamm, he showed what is possible for a British ski racer.
On 22nd January 2022, Dave won the Hahnenkamm slalom at Kitzbühel, the most celebrated race in the sport. It was the first World Cup race win by a British skier in over 50 years. The sport stood still. No fan who saw it will ever forget it.
He has been proof to an entire generation of British alpine skiers that it is possible, that it is worth sacrificing for, and that this country can produce athletes who belong at the top of the sport.
